SLEEP TEST

Hi all....

I'll be travelling into London this afternoon for an overnight sleep test at Guys Hospital. I'm a little curious as to how it will go/ what will happen etc.

I have to be there by 5.30pm and apparently they do an overnight sleep test as well as a sleep test the following day whilst I take a nap,

I am able to go home by 5pm tomorrow afternoon.

Fortunately my mum, her friend and Rob are taking me - that's a lot of people i know and the reason is because my mums friend is driving (as the rest of us are not confident enough to drive up in London/don't fancy it - (the first is really a lie as the rest of us have all driven up London before!! lol. I think it's really that none of us want to drive up to London so my mums friend Paul gets the pleasure ) and Paul wants my mums company for the journey and I want Rob my partner to come because I would like his support so lol, there'll be four of us turning up, with only one of us (me) being tested - they'll think we've got nothing better to do with our time and that we fancied a family day trip lol.
Sorry, just tickles me!!

Anyway I thought I'd start this thread so that I can update with posts as and when something happens whilst I'm at the hospital (and when I say as something happens - I mean tests and anything of interest - I don't mean anything bad!) Fortunately this overnight sleep test shall not cause me any pain and hopefully no discomfort either :-)

I was also wondering if maybe any other members here have had one of these overnighter's before ??

If so how did you find it?

Anyway it won't be long before I'm on my way there! So will update later!!

Well it's day 2 and in all honesty I'm finding it tough.

The reason being is I'm feeling SO zombiefied and there's nothing I can do to stop feeling this way or wake up more and feel more refreshed...

I'm not allowed caffeine.
I'm not allowed to sleep in between scheduled nap times.
I have to try and sleep when it is a scheduled nap time.
I have to carry a big box of wires which are connected to my head and other parts of my body, all the time.

Needless to say, it's not easy and it's not just 'going to hospital for a sleep'.

Plus my room is so unbelievably hot. It's horrible. I've got such a horrible headache too which is worse every time I wake up from a nap.

I thought I would just have one nap today... But no it's 5 naps all 20 minutes each!! Once you're asleep, you're soon woken up again...

But I guess it's the way it goes... I'll find out after my next nap as to whether ill need another one after that, or whether I'm done. Either way if should get the results at the end of today and I can then go home at 5ish.

And boy I cannot wait for home time!!

Well the sleep test did have an end to it, thank fully :-)

And the results came back OK.

It's not too bad, now I'm looking back at it, isn't that always the way!!

I guess it had to be done and every better that the results were ok. The only thing the doctor mentioned was that it takes me less than 2 minutes to fall asleep.... He mentioned he would recommend I was put on stimulants but I don't know how well that would sit with my psychiatrist..... Manic moments would be even more loopy! Lol.

Anyway to anyone having a sleep test in the future - it's not at all painful, it's more annoying than anything! But it's fine, go with it, it's ok!

Here are some pics of the attractive equipment I had to wear for 24 whole hours!! It seemed like forever and I did get some funny looks.... I wonder if anyone thought I was a su bomber?? Eek.

I have another appointment to attend the sleep clinic... it's booked for sometime in August this year.

Rivka - did you have your sleep test done?
