Hi all
As some of you may already know - I have a painful physical condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and I have been prescribed a pain killing patch called a Bu-Trans patch. I started on 5mg dose a year or longer ago, then it was increased to 10mg about 4 months later... So I was on 10mg for quite a long time, almost a year I would say. Anyway the other day, Friday last week in fact my doctor increased the dose to 20mg as requested by myself (well I actually asked for it to be increased to 15mg but she advised an increase to 20mg in the hope that it would prevent me needing as much oromprph).
Anyway my reason for posting is to say how the increase is helping and I wondered if any one else is on the same patch or another pain patch?
I do worry though - because I know I'm going to always need some kind of painkiller and it's natural that it will likely need to be increased again over time - however the bu Trans patch only goes up to 30mg and I wonder what if anything could I take once the 30mg patch becomes non effective as it inevitably will do one day in the future.
Are there many options after the patch I wonder? What's the next step....?
I don't want to get to the point where I'm on the strongest of the strong stuff if you know what I mean, because I worry that I would be in pain and there would be nothing left to try...
Is this making sense? I do tend to have a habit of making things sound a lot more jumbled and complicated than they are! LOL.
Also if anyone is looking for a new pain killer I strongly recommend the patch because you put it on once a week and it slowly releases a constant painkiller into your body through your skin. It's very effective and you don't have to worry about taking pills every few hours a day!
If anyone wants any further information on these patches or other medications for pain, please ask me... I've previously been on tramadol, co-codamol & codeine and am currently on the patch, amytriptyline and oromprph as PRN.
xx
